Congratulation Hashi! Wedding Party Live
On Octber 18th, a wedding party of Hashi who is a webmaster of CyberFusion was held at Osaka Blue Note. In the party, a special jazz fusion band played there. The band was lead by ex-Naniwa Express that is a legendary Japanese fusion band, Makoto Aoyagi and a Berkeley alumni guitarist, Kazuhiko Michishita. Here is a report of the live session.

1. Tomomo

The first song is Aoyagi's original number that is a tribute to his son, Tomomi. It was a very gentle song suited for a wedding. It's nice to have a such original song perfect for wedding live. Aoyagi's piano played beautiful melody line expressing blessing feeling. Also drums playing was well controlled together with supporting bass line.

2. Wish

The second is Michishita's original song. I remembered him playing in Masahiro Sayama & Gombo in TV program several years ago. In the program he had played good blusy guitar that had impressed me and I was proud to have such a guitarist in Japan. This time he played more technical fusion phrase that revealed his different style. His phrase was so good at the climax of his solo part. I thought he should be more popular. His solo CD would be released shortly.

3. Blue Willow

Our webmaster Hashi requested this song "Blue Willow" from Naniwa Express's first album "No Fuse" that is one of the best albums in Japanese fusion history. Aoyagi played soprano saxophone emotionally in this song. He usually plays the song by tenor saxophone but as he mentioned that there is not big difference between tenor and soprano for him, sound of soprano sax seemed suited more to atmosphere of the song. I think this song was the best out of 4 songs played.

4. Sukiyaki
They concluded the session by famous Japanese pop standard "Sukiyaki" in jazz arrangement. There were several guests who came from overseas at the party and the song seemed matching to the international atmosphere well.
It was worth visiting Osaka from Tokyo by bullet train.(by Kouichi Tada)
